Ms. Bessie Lee Williams was born on October 19, 1936, in Camilla, Georgia, to the late James Williams and the late Letha Mae Robinson Williams. She was the youngest child of this union.
Bessie accepted Christ at an early age.
Her early childhood education was the public schools of Mitchell County; she graduated from Monroe High in Albany, Georgia in 1955. Bessie continued her education at Albany State College, Albany Georgia earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1961. Following her graduation from Albany State College, she moved to New York City, New York where she earned New York State Teaching Certification and New York State Educational Supervisor Certification from Bank Street College, New York, New York; she also attended Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, where she earned a Masters of Arts in Early Childhood Education/Special Education.
Bessie was employed by New York City as a Senior Early Childhood Consultant at the Agency for Child Development / Early Childhood. She retired January 6, 2006.
While living in New York City, Bessie was a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leaderships of: Rev. Connie Stamps, Rev. Dr. John Albert Smith and (current Pastor) Rev. Dr. Bobbie McDaniels. She was a member for more than forty-five years and served in several church ministries. Bessie continued to support the church financially after moving back to Albany, Georgia.
Bessie enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
After her retirement Bessie moved back to Albany and joined Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lorenzo Heard.
Bessie departed this life on October 17, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Williams and Letha Mae Robinson-Williams; sisters, Vera Williams Martin and Jamie Williams; brothers, Bennie Williams and Tommy Williams; nephew, Conrad Williams and a niece, Theresa Pinkins.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her nieces, Wanda M. Montgomery (Charles) of Covington, Georgia, Belinda Smith of College Park, Georgia, Katrina W. Shivers of Albany, Georgia, Mary W. McCane (Kenneth) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Joyce W. Andrews (Antonio) of Union City, Georgia; nephews, Larry Martin of Tampa, Florida, Kenneth Martin (Deborah) of Dayton, Ohio; Wayne Martin (Melissa) of East Point, Georgia; nephew, Leroy Williams (Comora) of Albany, Georgia, Tommy Williams, Jr., Hyattsville, Maryland; Clifton Williams (Sally), Colorado Springs, Colorado and Henry Williams, Washington, DC.; special cousins, Mable Quimberly-White of Camilla, Georgia and Emma Wimberly of Covington, Georgia; and a host of family and friends.
