Mrs Ernestine McNeil

January 18, 1929 — April 5, 2017

Ernestine Jeter McNeil was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at the age of 88 years old. She was the daughter of the late Minnie L. and Ewell Jeter and the twin sister of Geraldine Jeter Williams. Preceding her in death was her beloved daughter Zenobia Jane Jeter and brother Eugene A. Jeter. Ernestine was educated in the public-school system of Albany where she resided her entire life. After high school, she took numerous courses in various fields always striving to improve herself. She was a life-long member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served faithfully in many capacities until her health prevented. She was also affiliated with Bethany Temple COGIC where she attended bible study and special services. She retired from Miller’s in 1993, but not from her friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially in later years to visit family. She was a charter member of the Bon’-Amies Club where she was awarded City Club Woman of the Year 2014, presented by The Albany Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs and Youth affiliates. She was also a member of the The Georgia Federation of Colored Women’s Club Inc. She enjoyed visiting the sick and shut in and gathering personal care items for them. She gave of herself for which she was richly rewarded. She leaves to cherish her memory her twin sister Geraldine Jeter Williams, Albany, GA, daughter Andrea Smith (Jerome), Devon, PA, son Kevin E. Thomas (Henri), Atlanta, GA, niece Shelia Butler, Albany, GA, grandsons Kevin J. Thomas (Takeisha), Decatur, GA, Leroy Jenkins (Gwen), Roanoke, VA, Eric V. Thomas, Decatur, GA, Jerome J. Smith, Devon, PA, granddaughters Keisha Davis (Julius), Leesburg , GA, Stephanie Johnson (Jeffery), Laytonsville, MD, nephews Ronald “Salt” Williams, Albany, GA, Michael Jeter, Oakland, CA, nieces Tylene Jeter, Albany, GA, Linda Goddard, W. Palm Beach, FL, great nieces Erica Corbett, Conyers, GA, Chiquetta Jones (Alfred), Anderson, SC, great nephew William A. Corbett (Mary), Odessa,TX, god daughters Bernice Giddens, Albany, GA, and Carolyn Sanders, Warner Robbins, GA, god son Ed Kinnel, Dawson, GA, twelve great grand and six great great grand children.
