Christopher Reynard McHenry affectionately known as ‘Chris’ was born June 24, 1962 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Lee P. and Elfree Knight McHenry. He was the fourth child of five born into this union.
Chris received Christ at an early age being baptized at Green Liberty Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama under the late Reverend H. E. Gilvin. He later moved his membership to Sixth Avenue Baptist Church where he joined under the late Reverend Doctor John Thomas Porter.
Chris was a high school graduate of Carol W. Hayes High School and received his diploma in 1980 graduating with honors. Chris was a member of the Hayes High School Marching Band and a member of the National Honor Society. He majored in textile engineering and received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1986. While matriculating at Auburn University, Chris pledged the Theta Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
Chris made his home in Albany, Georgia where he was employed with Coats and Clark - a manufacturer of sewing threads, yarns and other craft products from 1999 until 2020. In addition to his more than 20 years of experience as an industrial engineer, he served as the company’s vice presidentuntil his retirement. His leadership, expertise and commitment to his job was widely respected.
In his past time, Chris enjoyed cooking, college football and jazz among other interests. He took great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends, cheering on his hometown teams and relaxing to the sounds of his favorite jazz artists.
Those who knew Chris will never forget his quick wit, his easy smile and the way he could make anyone laugh no matter the occasion.
With all of Chris’ accomplishments, nothing brought him greater pride and joy than his family and loved ones. He believed love is an action word – something to be lived every day through the ways he cared, supported and showed up for others. His love was felt in everyday moments which created lasting memories. A bright light continues to shine in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
On October 10, 2025, Chris transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home to be with God.
Cherishing memories of a brother who was loved by all is his daughter Amanda Paige McHenry, beloved companion Lisa Mackey, one brother Duane McHenry (Wanda), three sisters Dian (Victor) Devaughn, Vickie (Clarence) Rasberry and Sonya Jones; nephew and nieces Anthony McHenry (Deidre), Chrishuna Vasser, LaToya Lee (Edward), Jasmine Jones, Mia Jones, Alycia Devaughn, Chelsei Devaughn; great nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
